Ingapirca Inca Ruins

Day visit from Cuenca:

Yes, often done so.

Driving time from Cuenca:

More or less 1.5 hrs. per way.

What is it?

It is the major Inca sttlement, well kept in Ecuador. It is not comparable with any of the Inca archeological sites found in Peru, due to the extent in which those have been reconstructed (or as it is said in Peru, "given value again"), but still is very interesting to have an very good idea of the context in which the Incas inhabited our region and their extensive influence in our culture. There is also an on-site museum with more interesting information about the place and its "modern" discoverers.

What can you do there?

Sightseeing, hiking.

Possible / Suggested Overnight Town:

Cuenca, lodge or hacienda in the area, Alausi, Riobamba.
