What is it?

This island is part of the Machalilla National Park and its marine reserve. The island is uninhabited, and some coastal bird species such as Blue, and Red Footed Boobies, Tropic Bird, Nazca Boobies, and ocassionally, Albatross, nest and live permanently. It has also a reach marine life around it, and there is some human history regarding the farm that used to race cattle on the upper part, or the pirates that might have thrown a big ammount of silver on its edge. Between June and September, most tours include whale watching as the main activity of the day visit to the island. Humpback Whales recover and reproduce during this time of the year in front of the ecuadorian coast, but the weather for a sun and beach vacation is usually less than optimal.
