Yes, often done so.
More or less 45 min. per way.
This day we depart early in the morning to drive for almost an hour through the different climate zones of the Sierra Negra Volcano slopes. We see the coastal lowlands, and reach at the end the Pampas or fern zone. We walk at the edge of the caldera aprox. 18 km. from the parking lot, to the active part of the Sierra Negra volcano called "Chico" Volcano, and back, in average 3 hrs. per way. There we will observe impressive lava formations and hopefully will have a great view of the northern part of the island. Great opportunity to see the Galapagos Hawk.
Sightseeing, hiking, bird watching, animal observation.
Puerto Villamil, highland campsite.
