General itinerary for the day

This day we depart early in the morning to drive for almost an hour through the different climate zones of the Sierra Negra Volcano slopes. We see the coastal lowlands, and reach at the end the Pampas or fern zone. We walk at the edge of the caldera towards the west aprox. 24 km. from the parking lot, to the very active part of the Sierra Negra volcano called Sulfur Volcano, and back, in average 4 hrs. per way. There we will observe impressive lava formations, walk over sulfur and water vapor fumaroles, and hopefully will have a great view of the inside of the caldera, as we walk on the edge of it, and descend into it. Great opportunity to see the Galapagos Hawk.

What can you do today?

Hiking, bird watching, animal observation.

Possible / Suggested Overnight Town:

Puerto Villamil, highland campsite.
